《项脊轩志》是唐代韩愈创作的一篇散文,唐代文学史上意义深远。它以竹林七贤中项橐为原型,借以诠释人生如梦、寄托理想境界。近日,本人独立翻译了该篇文献,现附送原文及翻译。

Xiang Tuo of Xiapi[1] built himself a pavilion in his garden, a secluded retreat where it was quiet and tranquil, preparing his food and drinks himself. He kept a simple life with no desire for power or wealth.
In his garden, a grove of bamboos thrived, while chrysanthemums bloomed in autumn. Such beautiful scenery lured groups of visitors to his home, admiring his character and his lifestyle.
Once a visitor asked him, ``Is it your desire to have thousands of visitors?`` ``No,`` Xiang Tuo answered, ``I’d rather have none.``
His contentment and integrity were extraordinary and rare, his calm and serene appearance did not alter even when he was suffering from illness. His extraordinary faculties and witticisms were unparalleled among all seven sages[2].
Today the pavilion still remains in Xiapi, however, the bamboo forest and the chrysanthemum garden no longer exist. Despite this, the visitors still come, with no less respect than before.
